Towering Pines Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is one modality of Oriental Medicine which is one of the oldest continually practiced medical systems in the world dating back almost 2,500 years. Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine, sterilized, disposable needles into specific points along energetic pathways (meridians) in order to facilitate balance, harmony, and free-flow of chi. Chi is a vital substance which constructs, animates and nourishes the body and is otherwise known as “life force”. When chi is blocked or stagnated, disease develops. When chi is flowing throughout the body, disease of any kind does not exist.

DOES IT HURT?

Acupuncture needles are very fine, nothing like the needles used for injections. Sensations are different for everyone. Upon insertion of a needle, some people experience a feeling similar to a mosquito bite. With the arrival of chi some may experience achiness, tingling, distention, warmth or heaviness. Most people find acupuncture to be extremely relaxing and fall asleep during treatment.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The number or treatments required depends upon the severity, duration, and nature of your concern. Typically acute conditions require less treatment whereas chronic conditions typically require a longer course of treatment to re-establish balance.
